Pastor Brian Thiessen

Our Staff

Brian Thiessen has been in pastoral ministry for the past 23 years, He was born and raised near Vancouver, British Columbia, and moved to southern Ontario with his family in September of 1995 after pastoring in Langley, BC for seven years. In the fall of 1997, the Lord led our Pastor to establish the Mississauga International Baptist Church with three founding families. God has blessed, and the church now has an average attendance of close to 200 on Sunday mornings.

Pastor Thiessen places emphasis on "Building Better Lives" as the Biblical philosophy of ministry for MIBC. This philosophy is based on 1 Cor 3: 6-9. Every Sunday, you will be challenged by our pastor's messages with thorough Biblical content and strong practical application.

Pastor Thiessen and his wife Cindy have six children and make their home in southwest Brampton.  You can read more about Pastor Thiessen at his blog, Building on the Rock or you can follow him on Twitter.

Lynda LePage worked in the Computer Support area for many years. In 2002,  she took a complete change in direction and came to work at MIBC as Pastor Thiessen’s personal secretary and Church Secretary. She also worked part time for a small renovating company until 2006 when she became full time at MIBC. To ensure she doesn’t have too much idle time, Lynda also does the bookkeeping for Baptist Missions to Forgotten Peoples.

She relaxes by scrap booking and playing with her kitty Houdini.

Our History

Early in December of 1996 Pastor Thiessen was approached by Dr. William Hiltz who asked him if he would pray about and consider planting an Independent Baptist Church in the city of Mississauga.  After some time in prayer Pastor Thiessen was convinced that God had called him to plant and pastor this new church.  At an empty church parking lot in Townsend, ON God led him to a passage in Luke 5:4Launch out into the deep and Let down your nets for a draught”.

Prior to establishing the church Pastor Thiessen and Dr. Hiltz learned of property on Tenth Line & Trelawny that was available, and was to be donated to a gospel preaching church.  The property ended up being donated to Harvest Baptist Church which had already been established at the time.

The first service of Mississauga International Baptist Church was held on October 1st, 1997 on the eighth floor apartment of Dr. & Mrs. William Hiltz on Kirwin Ave.  There were 13 people present that evening who signed the charter and organized the church.  The original families included the William & Joan Hiltz, Bruce & Donna Cook Cook, Stan and Brenda Kamps and Pastor Brian & Cindy Thiessen.
